Amit Shah & Nitish Kumar in dueling Rallies in Bihar as Bihar to Witness Major Political Rallies by Mahagathbandhan and NDA: In a display of their respective political strengths, the ruling Mahagathbandhan and the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will hold major rallies in Bihar today. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who leads the Mahagathbandhan, will hold a joint rally in Purnia, where he will be joined by his deputy Tejashwi Yadav and other leaders from smaller allies like the Congress and the Left. This event will showcase the “united opposition,” which Mr. Kumar believes can defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Yadav, who recently underwent a kidney transplant surgery in Singapore, is also expected to make a virtual appearance.

Meanwhile, over 400 km away, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP’s principal strategist, will address a public meeting in Balmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency, a party stronghold that was given to the chief minister’s JD(U) in 2019 as part of seat-sharing arrangements. After addressing a party meeting there, Shah will travel to Patna to hold another meeting with farmers.

Nitish Kumar’s Joint Rally in Purnia

The joint rally of the Mahagathbandhan, held in the eastern part of the state, will be a major show of strength for the opposition coalition. The Chief Minister, who is in his seventies, is expected to address a huge gathering, alongside his deputy and other key leaders. Kumar is confident that the combined opposition can challenge the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Amit Shah’s Meeting with Farmers

Meanwhile, Amit Shah’s public meeting in Balmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency will focus on strengthening the BJP’s hold in the state. With a stronghold in the region, the BJP will hope to consolidate its position with this event. Later, Shah’s meeting with farmers in Patna will also be a significant move to win over the rural electorate.

The rival rallies by the two political coalitions in Bihar will be a major event in the state’s political calendar. Both sides are hoping to consolidate their position ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While the Mahagathbandhan is banking on the “united opposition” to challenge the BJP, the NDA is focused on consolidating its strongholds in the state. It remains to be seen which side will come out on top in this power play.
