Bengaluru Man Arrested for Blackmailing and Extorting ₹2.5 Crore from Girlfriend

In a shocking case from Bengaluru, a 20-year-old woman was blackmailed and extorted of ₹2.5 crore by her boyfriend, Mohan Kumar. Exploiting her trust and the promise of marriage, the accused used intimate videos to coerce her into handing over money, jewelry, luxury watches, and even a high-end car. This Bengaluru man arrested was soon arrested. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand described the incident as a “well-planned crime.”

Rekindled Romance Turns Sour

The victim and Mohan Kumar initially met during their boarding school days. After years of no contact, the two reconnected and began a romantic relationship. During their time together, Kumar reportedly convinced the woman to allow him to film private moments, assuring her these were for personal use. However, these videos later became tools of manipulation and extortion.

Blackmail and Financial Losses

Using threats to release the videos online, Kumar pressured the woman into transferring significant sums of money. According to reports, the victim withdrew ₹1.25 crore from her grandmother’s bank account and transferred it to accounts provided by Kumar. Additionally, she handed over ₹1.32 crore in cash across multiple instances.

But Kumar’s greed extended beyond money. He forced the victim to part with expensive jewelry, luxury watches, and even a car. Reports also reveal that he transferred money into his father’s bank account on several occasions.

Justice

After enduring months of psychological torment, the woman mustered the courage to report the crime to the police. Authorities quickly arrested Mohan Kumar and began recovering the extorted money. Commissioner B Dayanand confirmed that ₹80 lakh has already been retrieved.

“This was a meticulously planned crime,” noted the police commissioner. Investigators are now probing further financial and digital evidence to secure a comprehensive case against the accused.

This case underscores the importance of cyber safety and the dangers of trusting individuals with sensitive content. Authorities are urging victims of blackmail and exploitation to come forward without fear of stigma.
