A Chilling Checklist
Atul Subhash’ left a detailed checklist, divided into three sections: “Before Last Day,” “Last Day,” and “Execute Last Moment.” Tasks ranged from securing finances, submitting office equipment, and backing up data to personal actions like leaving keys on the fridge and taking a bath. A printed note beside the checklist read, “Justice is due.”
- Before Last Day: Tasks such as completing legal preparations, backing up data, and securing finances were marked “Done.”
- Last Day: This section included uploading a scanned suicide note, clearing payments, and submitting his office laptop and ID.
- Execute Last Moment: Instructions like leaving keys on the fridge, placing the suicide note on the table, and notifying lawyers and family were listed.
The meticulous planning highlights the psychological turmoil and the months of thought that went into Subhash’s actions.

Claims of Extortion and Harassment
In his suicide note, Atul Subhash accused his wife and in-laws of harassment, including filing cases under the Dowry Prohibition Act and cruelty against a woman. He claimed that a judge in Uttar Pradesh demanded ₹5 lakh to settle his cases. The note revealed his despair over the justice system and the alleged instigation to end his life by his wife and mother-in-law.
Subhash wrote, “The more I work hard, the more my family is harassed… Now, with me gone, there won’t be any money, and there won’t be any reason to harass my old parents and my brother.”
Confrontations and Mockery
Subhash alleged that during court proceedings, his wife and mother-in-law mocked his helplessness, with his wife reportedly asking why he hadn’t committed suicide yet. He claimed a judge laughed during the exchange, further eroding his faith in the legal system.
In his note, Atul Subhash wrote, “This incident, along with instigation to commit suicide and the face of the laughing judge, destroyed my faith in the legal system.”
Abetment Case Registered
The police have registered an abetment of suicide case against Atul Subhash’s wife and her family. Efforts to contact the accused family members have been met with silence. Subhash’s note also included a plea for societal reflection on the misuse of legal provisions and its devastating impact.
