Bihar Tense After Ram Navami Clashes, Amit Shah Contacts Governor

Fresh Violence in Bihar Following Ram Navami

Tensions remain high in Bihar, as incidents of violence were reported in Rohtas and Nalanda districts a day after Ram Navami, according to police.

Clashes in Nalanda and Rohtas Districts

In Biharsharif, Nalanda district, one person was killed and several others injured when clashes erupted between two groups. In Sasaram town, Rohtas district, six people were injured in a blast. Police are investigating the blast, which took place in a house in Sasaram, and have recovered a two-wheeler from the scene. The injured are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Nalanda

To maintain law and order, police have imposed prohibitory orders in Nalanda. Clashes in both districts were initially reported on Friday, and tensions escalated due to disagreements over Ram Navami processions. By Friday afternoon, the groups were attacking each other with stones.

Security Tightened, Social Media Monitored

Shashank Shubhankar, District Magistrate of Nalanda, reported that at least 80 people have been arrested and community leaders are holding meetings to encourage peace. Security has been heightened in Nalanda and Rohtas, with senior officials stationed in affected areas. Authorities are also monitoring social media to curb the spread of false or provocative news. The home ministry will deploy additional paramilitary forces in Bihar in response to the violence.

Amit Shah Cancels Visit, Consults Bihar Governor

Amit Shah, who was scheduled to visit Sasaram today, spoke with Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar to assess the situation in the state. Shah’s trip was canceled due to the ongoing communal tension.

Police Dismiss Rumors of Residents Fleeing

Police denied reports suggesting that some Sasaram residents were leaving the area because of the tension, describing the rumors as “totally baseless and absurd.” Rohtas Police urged the public to disregard such rumors.

Bihar Chief Minister Comments on Communal Tensions

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar claimed that the communal tensions in the state were incited by certain individuals engaging in “gadbad” (mischief). He expressed concern over the incidents during Ram Navami festivities in Sasaram and Bihar Sharif, which he said were unprecedented in the area and unnatural. Kumar stated that police officials have been directed to identify troublemakers and take strict action against them.
