Bomb Threats at Taj Hotel and Airport: Police Find No Suspicious Items

In a dramatic turn of events, Mumbai’s Taj Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were subjects of a bomb threat on Monday evening. The Mumbai Police swiftly conducted a thorough search at both locations following a call that reported the presence of explosives. Fortunately, nothing suspicious was found, and the call was traced back to Uttar Pradesh.

Details

The Mumbai Police received a call in their control room, alerting them to bombs supposedly placed at the iconic Taj Hotel and the city’s airport. This call led to immediate action, with security personnel dispatched to both sites to conduct exhaustive searches. “Nothing suspicious was found,” confirmed the Mumbai Police after the sweep.

Investigations into the origin of the call revealed that it came from Uttar Pradesh. “The search for the caller is underway,” stated a police spokesperson, as reported by ANI. The authorities are diligently working to locate the individual responsible for the call, which has since been determined to be a hoax.

This incident is not isolated, as it comes amidst a series of bomb threats received across various cities in India. These threats, although ultimately unfounded, have triggered substantial security responses and public anxiety.

Recent Threats in Other Cities

On May 26, the director of Chennai Airport received two emails warning that bombs would be planted near the airport and advised the deboarding of passengers. These emails were promptly forwarded to the police, who, after a thorough check, confirmed the threats were a hoax.

Similarly, on May 23, bomb threats were reported at two Delhi University colleges, Lady Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College. The Delhi Fire Service responded to these threats, which were later confirmed to be bogus.

Just a day before, on May 22, a bomb threat was made to the Union Home Ministry’s office at Delhi’s North Block, adding to the spate of false alarms.

The wave of hoax bomb threats has affected numerous educational institutions across the country. On May 1, Delhi Police reported that 131 schools received threat emails. Following this, four schools in Jaipur received similar threats on May 13. Additionally, schools in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengaluru have also been targeted by these scare tactics.

These false alarms have not only diverted significant police resources but also caused considerable public distress. The authorities emphasize the importance of not downplaying such threats, given the potential risks involved, but also call for stringent actions against those responsible for creating panic without cause.

The Mumbai Police, along with other law enforcement agencies, continue to monitor the situation closely and are working on enhancing their response protocols to deal with such threats more effectively. The focus is also on tracing and prosecuting individuals who make these false threats to deter similar actions in the future.

The bomb threats at Taj Hotel in Mumbai and Mumbai airport, while ultimately unfounded, underscore the ongoing challenge of dealing with hoax threats that can cause widespread alarm and disruption. As police continue their search for the caller traced to Uttar Pradesh, the need for vigilance and robust security measures remains paramount. The recent spate of hoax threats across the country highlights the importance of efficient response systems and the necessity for legal consequences to prevent such incidents from recurring.
