NEET-PG Admit Cards and Cash Seized from Patna Medical College Hostel
Patna Police uncovered a shocking development at the Chanakya Hostel of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Authorities found burnt cash worth ₹2.75 lakh, half-burnt NEET-PG admit cards, and fake OMR sheets in a room illegally occupied by Ajay Kumar, a former postgraduate student from Samastipur. This discovery has intensified scrutiny over BPSC Paper Leak and exam malpractice in Bihar, a state already reeling from prior examination scandals.
Illegal Room Occupation Leads to Discovery
The incident began when a fire broke out in the Chanakya Hostel on January 7, 2025. Upon investigating the aftermath, police found the incriminating materials in Ajay Kumar’s room, which was reportedly not officially allotted to him. Witnesses claimed that Kumar, known for forcibly occupying multiple rooms in the hostel, visited the premises with several associates on January 8 and expressed anger over the condition of the room.
Authorities also seized partially burnt ₹500 and ₹100 notes, alongside a liquor bottle found on the premises.
Possible Exam Malpractice
Ajay Kumar is suspected of running a racket that involved hiring MBBS students to impersonate genuine candidates during NEET exams. While Patna SP (Central) Sweety Sahrawat refrained from confirming a direct link to cheating or BPSC Paper leak, she emphasized that all seized documents are under verification.
“This room was illegally occupied by Ajay Kumar. We have sought detailed reports from PMCH authorities regarding the recovered documents, including the admit cards and OMR sheets,” said Sahrawat.
History of Exam Scandals
This revelation comes just a year after the NEET-UG exam in Bihar faced a massive paper leak, leading to the arrest of 45 individuals by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Bihar emerged as the epicenter of the scam, with several arrests made across the state.
Adding to the turmoil, protests are currently underway demanding the cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE) following allegations of a paper leak. Political support for the protests has grown, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Purnia MP Pappu Yadav calling for a statewide bandh on January 12.
Legal Developments
In the wake of these controversies, a petition was filed in the Patna High Court seeking a re-examination of the BPSC exam. This followed the Supreme Court’s refusal to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the case. The petition, filed by a group of students led by Pappu Kumar, has intensified calls for accountability and transparency in Bihar’s examination processes.
Bihar’s repeated exam scandals have cast a shadow on its education system, affecting students and institutions alike. The discovery at PMCH highlights the persistent issue of exam-related fraud and raises questions about the measures taken to ensure fairness and transparency.
Experts have called for stricter regulations and technological solutions to curb malpractice. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the case, with the hope of identifying the full extent of the racket and holding those involved accountable.
