Celebrate Women’s Day with Air India Group’s 90 All-Women Crew Flights
In honor of Women’s Day, Air India Group has been flying over 90 all-women crew flights since March 1, consisting of Air India, Air India Express, and AirAsia India. The number 90 was chosen to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the first commercial flight by Bharat Ratna JRD Tata.
Air India operated 40 flights with all-women crews, covering domestic and international locations. Meanwhile, Air India Express had 10 all-international flights to the Gulf route, and AirAsia India had over 40 flights within India.
Air India Express CEO Aloke Singh stated that the company aims to achieve an equitable representation of women in their workforce and leadership, with women holding key positions that were previously male-dominated. With over 200 female pilots, Air India claims to have one of the largest pools of female pilots in the country, with women making up 15% of the cockpit crew.
Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, said that India has the most significant number of commercial women pilots globally, and with more women pursuing aviation careers, gender equality in the workforce is being achieved.
In the past, the airline has also made history by operating the world’s first all-women crew flight from Delhi to San Francisco and flying a similar flight over the polar route.
Air India Group is committed to encouraging gender diversity and providing a platform for professional growth for their female colleagues. They are also urging more women to join them on their journey to transform aviation in the country.
