Delhi-Noida Traffic Paralyzed Ahead of Farmers’ Protest March
Massive Traffic Jams Disrupt Delhi-NCR Commute: Delhi and Noida faced widespread traffic disruption as thousands of farmers mobilized for the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march toward Parliament. Organized by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and other farmer groups, the march seeks to press for multiple demands, including compensation and policy changes. Commuters in the National Capital Region (NCR) encountered severe traffic congestion, particularly at major border points such as Chilla and DND Flyway, which were choked with vehicles.

Gridlock at Key Borders
Traffic along the Chilla border connecting Delhi and Noida slowed to a crawl as vehicles queued up for kilometers. Similar scenes played out on the DND Flyway, where all 10 lanes were packed, creating a complete standstill. Commuters reported delays lasting hours, with limited alternate routes to escape the gridlock.
The Noida Police’s advisory listed diversions and alternate routes, including:
- From Chilla Border to Greater Noida: Commuters can use Sector 14-A flyover, Golchakkar Chowk, and Jhunjhupura Chowk.
- From DND Border to Delhi: Use the Film City flyover and Sector-18 Elevated Road.
- From Kalindi Border to Delhi: Mahamaya flyover and Sector-37 offer alternate routes.
- Yamuna Expressway Traffic: Exiting at Jewar toll and proceeding via Khurja and Jahangirpur is recommended.
- Peripheral Expressway Traffic: Avoid Sirsa exits, using Dadri or Dasna instead.
Farmers’ Demands at the Forefront
Farmers participating in the protest represent at least 20 districts and have been advocating for a resolution to longstanding issues. Their five key demands center on equitable compensation and rehabilitation under existing and newly enacted agricultural laws. These include:
- Allocation of 10% plots and a 64.7% increase in compensation under old acquisition laws.
- Compensation at four times the market rate for land acquired post-January 1, 2014, along with a 20% allocation of plots.
- Employment and rehabilitation benefits for the children of landless farmers.
- Government directives to enforce recommendations passed by the High Power Committee.
- Proper resettlement of populated areas impacted by land acquisitions.
Farmers have staged protests at key border points between Punjab and Haryana for months, with the agitation intensifying in recent weeks. They are now planning to march toward Delhi from Noida’s Maha Maya flyover, aiming to reach the Parliament complex by noon.
Heightened Security in the Capital
Amid fears of large-scale disruptions, security measures in Delhi have been bolstered. Police have intensified vehicle inspections and erected barricades at strategic locations. The authorities are working to ensure the protests remain peaceful while minimizing inconvenience to residents.
This protest follows previous agitations by farmers over issues related to land acquisition, crop prices, and agricultural policies. The farmers’ groups assert that the new laws fail to address their concerns and have called for urgent government intervention.
Commuters Bear the Brunt
Commuters across the NCR are bearing the brunt of the massive traffic jams. Office-goers, students, and emergency service vehicles have all been affected, with long delays reported on several arterial roads. Alternate routes have been overwhelmed as well, leaving drivers with few options to escape the chaos.
As farmers mobilize to bring their grievances to the nation’s capital, their protest highlights the ongoing tensions between policymakers and agricultural communities. With land acquisition and compensation issues remaining contentious, this march represents a significant moment in India’s evolving discourse on rural rights and development.
