Delhi Tutor Arrested Over Patna Protests by Civil Service Aspirants
Protests Over BPSC Exam Irregularities Lead to Arrest: Patna witnessed tense scenes on December 26, 2024, as police arrested a Delhi-based tutor, Rohit, for allegedly inciting protests outside the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) office. The demonstrators, claiming irregularities in the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), demanded a re-examination. The protests escalated into clashes, prompting police action that left several aspirants injured.
Allegations Against the Tutor
According to Patna District Magistrate Chandrasekhar Singh, preliminary investigations revealed that Rohit had mobilized and instigated the aspirants. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra stated that Rohit had traveled from Delhi with a group of individuals, including women, posing as disgruntled exam candidates. Authorities suspect a larger conspiracy, including potential external funding, behind the protests.
“The source of funding for these activities is under investigation,” Mishra said, adding that a report would be sent to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) to delve deeper into the financial trail.

Violent Protests
The protests turned chaotic when a large group attempted to enter the BPSC premises. Police resorted to baton charges to disperse the crowd, leading to allegations of excessive force. Aspirants claimed they were treated “like terrorists,” while authorities denied the accusations.
Popular vlogger Motiur Rahman Khan, known as Guru Rahman, joined the protests, condemning the police action. “Protesting aspirants should not have been treated this way. My support is with the students,” he said.

Reactions
The crackdown drew sharp criticism from opposition parties, including Congress, RJD, and Pappu Yadav’s Jan Adhikar Party. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of suppressing democratic protests, questioning his adherence to the socialist ideals of Jayprakash Narayan.
Pappu Yadav announced plans for a statewide bandh on January 1, 2025, if the December 13 exam was not canceled.
The incident has spotlighted growing tensions between civil service aspirants and the state government, with concerns over transparency in competitive examinations and the handling of student protests. As investigations into the alleged conspiracy and funding sources continue, the incident underscores the urgent need for dialogue and accountability in addressing grievances.
