Dilbert Comic Strip Loses Prominent Media Publishers Over Racist Remarks by Creator Several prominent media publishers across the United States have decided to drop the Dilbert comic strip after its creator, Scott Adams, described Black people as members of “a racist hate group” during an online video show.

Andrews McMeel Syndication, which distributes Dilbert, has not yet responded to requests for comment from Adams or the syndicator about his remarks. Dilbert is a long-running comic strip that pokes fun at office culture. Adams’ comments were made during an episode of the YouTube show “Real Coffee with Scott Adams.”

During the show, Adams referenced a Rasmussen Reports survey that asked whether people agreed with the statement “It’s OK to be White.” He repeatedly referred to people who are Black as members of a “racist hate group” and urged White people to “get the hell away from Black people.” According to the Anti-Defamation League, the expression was introduced in 2017 by members of the 4chan discussion forum as a trolling campaign but later adopted by certain white supremacists.

In response to Adams’ remarks, media officials labeled them as discriminatory, racist, and hateful and announced they would cease providing a platform for his work.

The Los Angeles Times announced that it will halt Dilbert’s publication, and the last publication of a Dilbert comic strip will appear in the Sunday, March 12, edition of the paper. The San Antonio Express-News and the Plain Dealer in Cleveland, as well as other publications that are part of Advance Local media, also announced that they are dropping Dilbert.

These media outlets have taken a stand against Adams’ discriminatory comments and have stated that they will not support racism or hate speech in any form. While Dilbert may have a long-running history, it appears that its creator’s comments have resulted in significant consequences.
