Drone Attacks Cause Fires, Evacuations in Kazan

Authorities in Kazan reported eight drones targeting the city. These drone attacks resulted in fires across three residential districts, prompting selective evacuations, including schools, according to Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin. Damage was recorded in an industrial area, over a river, and within residential neighborhoods.

Rustam Minnikhanov, head of the Tatarstan region, described the incident as a “massive UAV attack” and urged residents to remain calm. The government has activated emergency measures, including informing citizens about evacuation sites.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported downing six Ukrainian drones over Kazan, three through direct interception and three via electronic warfare. This was part of a broader effort to counter 19 Ukrainian drones reportedly targeting Russian territory.

Two Russian airports faced significant disruptions early Saturday following an alleged attack by Ukrainian drones. According to state-run media, Kazan International Airport and Gagarin Airport in Saratov, both in southwestern Russia, implemented flight restrictions in response to the incident.

Kazan, over 600 miles from Ukrainian-controlled territory, and Saratov, located more than 350 miles away, became unexpected focal points of the escalating conflict.

Ukraine Faces Simultaneous Drone and Missile Assaults

Ukraine’s air force revealed that Russia launched a staggering 113 drones across its territory overnight. Of these, 57 were intercepted, while another 56 were neutralized through countermeasures. Air raid sirens echoed across Ukraine, with officials warning of ballistic missile threats.

Key urban centers bore the brunt of the strikes. In Kherson, an oncology center was destroyed, and residential buildings in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia sustained significant damage. Kyiv experienced ballistic missile strikes, while Sumy, Kryvyi Rih, and regions in Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk reported shelling.

Seven people were injured in Zaporizhzhia and six in Kharkiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, calling them acts of terror and expressing gratitude to international allies for their ongoing support.

Escalating Violence on Both Sides

This escalation follows Friday’s combined missile and drone strike on Kyiv, which resulted in casualties, damage to central buildings, and destruction at several foreign embassies. Ukrainian officials labeled the strike as “barbaric,” underscoring the deteriorating situation.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict, marked by drone warfare and retaliatory strikes, continues to disrupt civilian life on both sides. As tensions rise, the international community remains focused on supporting Ukraine and pressing for peace.
