The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned the Chief Engineer of the Jharkhand Rural Roads Development Agency (JRRDA) for questioning. The move comes after the agency carried out several raids across the state, seizing incriminating documents, and questioning several officials over corruption allegations. The ED is investigating the alleged illegal diversion of government funds meant for rural road construction projects.
The Chief Engineer, identified as Rajiv Ranjan, was reportedly questioned for over six hours by the ED officials. The agency is scrutinizing the seized documents and financial records to build a case against those involved in the corruption scandal. The JRRDA is responsible for constructing and maintaining rural roads in the state.
The ED had earlier raided several premises linked to the JRRDA officials and their associates, including their residences and offices, and seized cash, jewelry, luxury cars, and other assets worth crores of rupees. The officials are alleged to have colluded with contractors and siphoned off funds meant for road construction projects. The ED is also investigating money laundering charges against them.
The Jharkhand government had formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the alleged corruption in the JRRDA. The SIT had submitted a report to the state government, based on which the ED had launched its own investigation.
The ED has been cracking down on corruption and money laundering cases across the country, especially in the wake of the PNB scam and other high-profile cases. The agency has been conducting raids and investigations against several politicians, bureaucrats, and businessmen in connection with various financial irregularities. The ED is working closely with other law enforcement agencies, including the CBI and the Income Tax department, to tackle white-collar crimes and economic offenses.
