Epigamia co-founder Rohan Mirchandani dies at 42

Rohan Mirchandani, the co-founder of Epigamia, India’s leading Greek yogurt brand, passed away at the age of 42 following a cardiac arrest. The tragic news was confirmed by Drums Food International, the parent company of Epigamia, in a heartfelt statement.

The company described Rohan as a mentor, friend, and visionary leader, vowing to uphold his dream and values. They emphasized their determination to honor the foundation he built and ensure that his vision for Epigamia continues to thrive.

Epigamia’s operations will now be led by senior leaders Ankur Goel, COO and Founding Member, and Uday Thakker, Co-founder and Director. The Board of Directors, which includes Rohan’s family, Raj Mirchandani, and key investors like Verlinvest and DSG Consumer Partners, has expressed its full support for this transition.

Ankur Goel and Uday Thakker reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward Rohan’s vision, acknowledging his unparalleled influence on the company’s journey.

A Visionary Entrepreneur

Rohan Mirchandani co-founded Drums Food International in 2013 after completing his education at NYU Stern and The Wharton School. The company began with the Hoki Poki ice cream line before transitioning to Epigamia, a brand now synonymous with high-quality Greek yogurt.

Under his leadership, Epigamia expanded to over 20,000 retail outlets across 30 cities in India. Plans for further expansion into the Middle East by 2025-26 highlighted his ambition to scale the brand globally.

Rohan was deeply motivated to innovate in India’s FMCG sector, often citing a pivotal lecture during business school as his inspiration. His vision included scaling Epigamia’s revenue to ₹250 crore by FY25 and growing the brand’s presence in quick-commerce platforms.

Rohan’s untimely death follows other significant losses in India’s startup ecosystem, including Pepperfry co-founder Ambareesh Murty and Good Capital’s Rohan Malhotra. The industry has come together to honor Rohan’s contributions and the lasting impact he leaves behind.

As Epigamia moves forward under new leadership, Rohan’s values and vision will continue to guide the company, ensuring that his legacy in India’s FMCG sector endures.
