Bengaluru Techie’s Suicide: FIR Filed Against Wife and In-Laws
The tragic suicide of Bengaluru-based AI professional Atul Subhash has sent shockwaves across the nation, sparking demands for justice and legal reforms. A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family members, including her mother Nisha Singhania, brother Anurag Singhania, and uncle Sushil Singhania, for abetment of suicide.
The complaint, filed by Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, accuses the Singhania family of harassment, emotional abuse, and extortion, which allegedly drove Atul to take his own life.
Bengaluru Techie’s Suicide: Allegations of Harassment and Legal Exploitation
Atul Subhash, originally from Uttar Pradesh but residing in Bengaluru, left behind a chilling 24-page suicide note and video detailing his experiences. In his note, he accused his wife and her family of filing multiple false cases against him, demanding ₹3 crore to settle disputes.
The FIR reveals that Atul and Nikita married in 2019 and had a child together. Following their divorce, Atul claimed he faced relentless harassment through nine cases, including allegations of murder, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, dowry demands, and financial extortion.
Bengaluru Techie’s Suicide: Family’s Plea for Justice
Bikas Kumar, speaking to reporters, expressed shock and grief over his brother’s death. “My brother did everything for her. He never shared his troubles with us. If he had, we would have supported him,” Bikas said.
Bikas further highlighted his brother’s deep despair, citing a line from the suicide note: “If I win from the system, devote my mortal remains to the Ganga; otherwise, leave them in the gutter outside the court.”
Atul’s family has urged authorities to investigate the allegations against the family court judge in Uttar Pradesh, whom Atul accused of bias and corruption.
In his final messages, Atul called for his parents to gain custody of his son, who he claimed was being kept away from him. His note also included a plea for his ashes to remain unimmersed until justice was served.
Police Investigation and Findings
The Bengaluru police were alerted to the suicide on Monday morning. Upon entering the locked apartment, they discovered Atul’s body and his detailed note, in which he repeatedly wrote, “Justice is due.”
The investigation is ongoing, with the police examining allegations of harassment and extortion by the Singhania family.
Mental Health Support and Awareness
This tragic incident has reignited discussions about mental health support, legal abuse in marital disputes, and the need for systemic reforms. Helplines and counseling services are being highlighted to prevent such tragedies in the future.
