G Kamalini: 16-Year-Old Bags ₹1.6 Crore Deal with Mumbai Indians at WPL 2025 Auction

Mumbai Indians make a historic pick at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 Auction
In a landmark moment at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction held in Bengaluru, the Mumbai Indians secured 16-year-old G Kamalini for a staggering ₹1.6 crore. This eye-catching bid came after an intense contest with the Delhi Capitals, marking Kamalini’s entry as one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket.

G Kamalini’s Rise to Fame

G Kamalini, a promising talent from Tamil Nadu, caught the attention of scouts and franchises with her exceptional performances in the domestic circuit. In October, she played a pivotal role in Tamil Nadu’s Under-19 championship victory, scoring 311 runs across eight matches. Her form extended to the Under-19 tri-series final, where she top-scored with 79 runs for India B against South Africa A. This stellar performance earned her a spot in India’s squad for the upcoming Under-19 Asia Cup.

Bidding War for Kamalini

Starting at a base price of ₹10 lakh, Kamalini’s name immediately sparked a bidding war between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC). MI owner Nita Ambani wasted no time, raising the paddle to secure the teenager. After several rounds of bidding, Kamalini was signed by MI for ₹1.6 crore, a sum that underscores her immense potential and marks her as a key figure in the team’s future plans.

Big Money Moves at the WPL Auction

The WPL 2025 auction saw several high-profile deals. Gujarat Giants made headlines by acquiring West Indies star Deandra Dottin for ₹1.7 crore. The bidding for Dottin, who had a base price of ₹50 lakh, saw fierce competition between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz, with the Giants ultimately securing her services.

Adding to the drama, the Gujarat Giants also broke records by signing Simran Shaikh for ₹1.9 crore, making her the most expensive buy of the auction. Shaikh, an uncapped batter, impressed franchises with her performances in the inaugural WPL season, where she played nine matches for the same franchise.

WPL Auction 2025

This year’s auction featured 120 players, including 91 Indians and 29 overseas cricketers. Among these, 82 uncapped Indian players and eight uncapped overseas players brought diverse talent into the mix, further underscoring the league’s growing stature and the opportunities it presents for emerging stars like Kamalini.
