Notorious Gang Shooter Caught After 25 Years
In a significant capture, the Mumbai Police have succeeded in detaining a long-absent gang shooter linked to the infamous Chhota Shakeel syndicate. Laik Ahmed Fida Hussain Sheikh, 50, had been evading the authorities for a substantial quarter of a century. His arrest was facilitated by the Pydhonie Police unit near Thane railway station on July 28th.
In a tumultuous episode dating back to April 2, 1997, Sheikh, along with his gang members, had brutally executed Munna Dhari, an associate of the now-detained underworld figure, Chhota Rajan. In the wake of this crime, Sheikh was captured and charged under various sections, including Section 302 and 34 of the IPC. He also faced charges under the Arms Act. Yet, a court’s decision to grant him bail in 1998 saw him vanishing from the legal radar and subsequently declared an absconder.
Over the years, authorities faced numerous dead-ends and red herrings. Although sources whispered about Sheikh’s presence in Mumbra, attempts to locate him there yielded no results. Rumors even suggested a quiet life as a taxi driver on the Thane campus. However, the determined police force, acting on recent confidential tips, laid a successful ambush, resulting in Sheikh’s capture near Thane railway station.
The capture of figures like Sheikh throws light on the clandestine operations of the underworld, reminding us of the era when gang wars were at their peak in Mumbai. Such arrests not only showcase the tenacity of law enforcement but also underline the importance of addressing past crimes. It is hoped that with Sheikh’s arrest, more insight can be gained into the operations of criminal organizations, helping to further dismantle their networks.
