Gout Gout Breaks Usain Bolt’s Record at 16

Australian sprinter Gout Gout has etched his name in the annals of athletics history by surpassing a record set by none other than Usain Bolt. At just 16, Gout clocked an astounding 20.04 seconds in the 200m race during the Australian Schools Championships in Brisbane. This feat not only shattered Australia’s national record, which had stood since 1968, but also surpassed Bolt’s 200m record of 20.13 seconds set at the same age in Barbados in 2003.

Initially recorded at 20.07 seconds, Gout’s time was later revised down, officially making him the fastest 16-year-old in the world in the 200m category. This remarkable performance has drawn comparisons to Bolt and raised hopes that Gout could be the next global sprinting sensation.

Early Achievements and Rising Stardom

Gout’s meteoric rise began earlier this year when he clinched the silver medal in the 200m at the World Under-20 Championships. This feat already positioned him as one of the most promising young athletes in the world. On Friday, he further demonstrated his sprinting prowess by clocking 10.04 seconds in the 100m heats, albeit with wind assistance exceeding the legal limit. This remains the fourth-fastest time ever recorded by an Australian under any conditions.

Speaking about his achievement, Gout expressed his disbelief and excitement. “It’s pretty crazy,” he remarked. “I’ve been chasing that record, but I didn’t think it would come this year.”

Who is Gout Gout?

Born to parents who migrated from war-torn South Sudan, Gout resides in Ipswich, Queensland, a town near Brisbane—the host city for the 2032 Olympics, where he hopes to compete at 24. His remarkable journey is a testament to resilience and determination.

Currently ranked as the second-fastest U18 runner in the 200m globally, Gout’s next goals include breaking the 10-second barrier in the 100m and dipping under 20 seconds in the 200m. The current U18 world record of 19.84 seconds, set by the USA’s Erriyon Knighton in 2021, remains a benchmark Gout aspires to achieve.

A Legacy in the Making

While Gout’s achievements are remarkable, he still has a long way to go before matching Bolt’s legendary career. Bolt’s world record of 19.19 seconds in the 200m and his 11 World Championship titles and eight Olympic golds remain unparalleled.

Gout, however, is optimistic and determined to build his legacy. “I’ve always done what I said I would. If I set a goal, I pursue it until I achieve it,” he said.

As he continues to break records and set new benchmarks, Gout Gout is undoubtedly a name to watch in the coming years.
