Ongoing Rescue Efforts
Rescue operations are currently in progress to save at least five individuals believed to be trapped under the rubble. Teams from the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are leading the multi-agency effort to locate and extricate the victims.
Initial investigations suggest that the building, which housed a gym among other facilities, collapsed due to ongoing excavation work on an adjacent plot. Authorities are probing the incident to confirm the exact cause of the structural failure.
Mohali police have registered a case against the building owners, Parwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is closely monitoring the situation. In a statement on X, he expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured the public that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
“Sad news has been received about the collapse of a multistorey building near Sohana in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. Rescue teams are working tirelessly at the site. I am in constant touch with the administration,” said the Chief Minister.
He further appealed for public cooperation and urged citizens to utilize the helpline number (0172-2219506) for assistance or updates.
