Netanyahu Confirms Hostage Release Deal Reached
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed on Friday that an agreement for the release of hostages had been finalized. The political-security cabinet is set to convene later in the day to discuss and approve the terms of the deal.
A statement from Netanyahu’s office said, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was informed by the negotiating team that agreements have been reached on a deal to release the hostages.” It added that the families of the captives had been briefed, and preparations for their return were underway.
This announcement follows accusations by Netanyahu’s office on Thursday that Hamas had backtracked on key parts of the agreement in an attempt to secure last-minute concessions. These claims were denied by Hamas, adding a layer of complexity to the already sensitive negotiations.
Key Details of the Deal
If approved, the agreement will involve the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. The truce is expected to begin on Sunday and will serve as a framework for further discussions to achieve a permanent resolution to the ongoing conflict. The breakthrough was facilitated by mediation efforts from Qatar and the United States, who announced progress earlier in the week.
