Kolkata: A third-year Electrical Engineering student at IIT Kharagpur, Shaon Malik, was tragically found dead in his hostel room on Sunday. His parents, who had come to visit him, discovered the body after forcibly opening the locked door with the assistance of institute personnel.

According to an institute official, Malik had spoken to his parents the previous night, and their conversation had appeared entirely normal. However, when he did not respond to calls the following morning, his parents sought help to access his room.
Malik was found hanging inside the Azad Hall of Residence, one of IIT Kharagpur’s hostels. The institute promptly alerted campus security and medical teams. A senior police officer confirmed that the post-mortem examination had been conducted, and the process was videographed as part of the ongoing investigation.
