Ind vs Aus 4th Test: Australia posted a commanding total of 480 runs in their first innings, thanks to Usman Khawaja’s marathon knock of 180 and Cameron Green’s maiden Test hundred, which included 18 boundaries. The duo’s 208-run stand lasted 59.4 overs and will give the Australians much-needed confidence after struggling in the first three games of the series. The Indian attack struggled on a batting-friendly pitch, with Ashwin being the standout bowler, taking six wickets.
India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, added 36 runs in 10 overs without any trouble, signalling their attacking intent for the next day. However, Australia still holds the advantage as their three spinners are likely to get more purchase than their Indian counterparts on the third day.
The Indian attack had a tough time containing the Australian batters, as the latter dictated terms both on the attacking and defensive fronts. India’s pacers leaked runs, conceding 40 boundaries, with Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami being the culprits.
Ashwin’s effort cannot be overlooked, as he bowled his heart out and picked up his 32nd five-wicket haul in Test cricket, leaving him only 27 wickets short of becoming the second Indian after Anil Kumble to reach the coveted 500 wicket milestone.
