Concern rises as daily cases surpass 6,000 for the first time since September 2021; Health Minister to review national preparedness

India has observed a concerning increase in daily Covid cases, reporting 6,050 new infections today—a 13% rise from yesterday’s 5,335 cases. This marks the first time the daily cases have exceeded 6,000 since September 16 last year. In response to this growing trend, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has scheduled a meeting with the health ministers of all states and Union Territories to review the nation’s preparedness.

Analyzing Covid-related Data and Statistics

The daily positivity rate, an indicator of infection spread, is currently at 3.39%. Meanwhile, India’s active caseload stands at 25,587. The country’s death toll has reached 5,30,943, with 14 new deaths reported today. The reported deaths occurred in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Kerala.

India’s Overall Covid Tally and Recovery Rate

India’s total Covid tally is at 4.47 crore (4,47,45,104). Active cases now make up 0.06% of all infections, while the national Covid recovery rate is recorded at 98.75%, according to the health ministry’s website.

Government’s Preparedness for Potential Surge in Infections

The government has expressed its readiness to manage a possible spike in Covid cases. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed NDTV in an exclusive interview that ICU beds, oxygen supplies, and other essential healthcare provisions are in place. Additionally, he highlighted the government’s weekly review of the nation’s preparedness in handling the ongoing pandemic.
