Indian-Origin CEO, Aravind Srinivas, Seeks Green Card Advice; Elon Musk’s One-Word Reply

Aravind Srinivas Sparks Buzz on Social Media with Green Card Query: A recent online exchange between Elon Musk and Aravind Srinivas, the Indian-origin CEO of Perplexity AI, has drawn widespread attention. Srinivas, who has been awaiting a green card for over three years, took to X (formerly Twitter) to seek advice from Musk about his immigration status.

In a succinct tweet, Srinivas asked, “I think I should get a green card. Wdyt?” The query elicited a flood of responses, but it was Musk’s single-word reply, “Yes,” that stole the spotlight. Srinivas acknowledged Musk’s response with emojis of a red heart and folded hands, expressing his gratitude.

Aravind Srinivas

Aravind Srinivas is the CEO and co-founder of Perplexity AI, an innovative AI-driven search engine backed by high-profile investors, including Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. The company, established in 2022, was founded by Srinivas along with Andy Konwinski, Denis Yarats, and Johnny Ho. As its leader, Srinivas is at the forefront of advancing AI-based search technologies.

A distinguished alumnus of IIT Madras, Srinivas pursued his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley. His career trajectory includes prestigious roles as a research intern at OpenAI, Google, and DeepMind, before returning to OpenAI as a research scientist. His expertise and leadership in the tech world have made him a notable figure in the global AI community.

Musk’s Broader Commentary on Immigration

Elon Musk’s engagement with Srinivas’ tweet extended beyond a simple affirmation. Earlier, Musk had commented on the challenges faced by highly skilled immigrants in obtaining legal status in the United States. He wrote, “We have an upside-down system that makes it hard for highly talented people to come to America legally, but trivial for criminals to come here illegally. Why is it easier to get in illegally as a murderer than legally as a Nobel Laureate?”

Musk’s remarks highlighted his ongoing criticism of U.S. immigration policies and the inefficiencies in welcoming global talent. He also referenced the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a symbolic nod to his views on streamlining systems.

Perplexity AI

Perplexity AI has gained recognition for its groundbreaking AI-powered search engine. With Srinivas at the helm, the company is reshaping how users access and interact with information. The support of influential investors like Jeff Bezos further underscores the company’s potential to lead in the AI space.
