Distress Over Indians Allegedly Trapped in Russian Army
The harrowing story of Rakesh Yadav, an Indian youth from Uttar Pradesh who recently returned home after being allegedly forced to serve in the Russian army during the war in Ukraine, has triggered a wave of anger and concern on social media. Yadav claims that over 25 Indians allegedly remain trapped in Russian Army, lured by promises of civilian jobs but coerced into combat.
Yadav described his ordeal, revealing that he and others were deceived by agents under the guise of home guard jobs in Russia. Upon arrival, they were forcibly recruited into the Russian army, beaten when they resisted, and given minimal training before being deployed to war zones. Social media users expressed outrage, labeling the actions as “modern slavery” and demanding accountability from authorities.
Financial Fraud and Agents’ Role
A particularly infuriating aspect of Yadav’s story is his allegation that agents withdrew approximately Rs 45 lakh from his account, comprising wages and compensation for injuries sustained during combat. Similar claims of financial exploitation by agents, who allegedly control bank accounts and siphon off earnings, have further enraged netizens.
One user commented, “This is not just human trafficking but outright robbery. Where is the system to protect our workers abroad?” Another questioned the lack of stringent measures against such agents, stating, “These fraudsters thrive because of loopholes in our governance. Justice must be served.”
Social Media Demands Accountability
Criticism has also been directed at the slow response from authorities. Several users called for immediate action to bring back the stranded youths and crack down on the network of unscrupulous agents. One tweet read, “If even a fraction of this story is true, it’s a national shame. The government must act now.”
The absence of communication with stranded individuals has deepened concerns. Families of those still trapped report no contact for months, leaving social media users questioning the effectiveness of diplomatic efforts.
Calls for Strict Action Against Agents
The role of fraudulent agents in facilitating these alleged atrocities has drawn severe backlash. Many on social platforms are urging the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to prosecute these agents and establish stringent safeguards to prevent future exploitation. A viral post stated, “Our youth are being exploited for profit by criminals posing as job agents. We need systemic reform to end this.”
Social media users have praised efforts by Union Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Member of Parliament Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal for their role in securing earlier releases. However, they demand a more comprehensive approach to address the issue. With the promise of raising the matter in Parliament, Seechewal’s commitment has been seen as a glimmer of hope in an otherwise grim situation.
