India’s active Covid-19 cases surpassed the 5,000 mark after 109 days with a daily increase of 796 cases, according to data from the Union health ministry. The current active cases make up only 0.01% of total infections with a case fatality rate of 1.19%.
The national recovery rate stands at 98.80%, with 4,41,57,685 recoveries. The country’s total tally of Covid-19 cases has reached 4.46 crore (4,46,93,506), with the death toll rising to 5,30,795 after recording five new fatalities.
The health ministry has advised the six most-affected states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, to implement a risk assessment-based approach to prevent and contain the spread of the virus. The government has also noted a rise in viral influenza cases across the country with symptoms similar to Covid-19.
In recent weeks, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka have seen a minor uptick in daily Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra reported an increase in weekly cases, from 355 to 668, while Gujarat reported 279 new cases with a positivity rate of 1.11%. Telangana reported a rise from 132 to 267 Covid-19 cases, and Tamil Nadu reported an increase from 170 to 258 cases in the respective weeks. Kerala and Karnataka reported a positivity rate of 2.64% and 2.77% respectively.
India has administered 220.64 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine according to the ministry’s website. With the rise in viral influenza cases, the government remains vigilant and advises the public to remain cautious, as symptoms are similar to Covid-19, including sore throat, fever, bodyache, and fatigue.
