The company announced his death in a heartfelt statement, with Mango CEO Toni Ruiz expressing deep sorrow: “Isak has been an example for all of us. He dedicated his life to Mango, leaving an indelible mark thanks to his strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and unwavering commitment to our company’s values.”
Tributes from Prominent Figures
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez paid tribute to Andic on social media, highlighting his entrepreneurial vision that transformed Mango into a global fashion leader. Salvador Illa, the head of Catalonia’s regional government, called him “a committed businessman who leaves an indelible mark on both Catalonia and the global fashion sector.”
A Legacy Built on Style and Innovation
Born in Istanbul in 1953, Isak Andic moved to Barcelona with his family at the age of 14. He opened his first Mango store in 1984 on Paseo de Gracia, Barcelona’s iconic shopping street, with the support of his brother Nahman. The timing was perfect, as Spain had just emerged from decades of dictatorship, and consumers were eager for modern, stylish clothing.
Under Andic’s leadership, Mango expanded rapidly, first across Spain and later into international markets. He pioneered the idea of a single brand identity for all Mango stores, a strategy that proved instrumental in the company’s success. “He realised that having the same name and brand in all stores would make the concept much stronger,” said Mango’s global retail director, César de Vicente.
Mango’s Global Impact
Today, Mango stands as one of the world’s leading fashion retailers, with a presence in over 120 countries and a workforce of 15,500 employees. The company sold nearly 160 million items in 2023, achieving a turnover of €3.1 billion.
Mango’s offerings, a blend of professional and casual styles, have consistently resonated with consumers. The brand is known for its ability to quickly adapt to the latest fashion trends while maintaining affordable prices.
Andic’s Visionary Leadership
Andic’s vision extended beyond business. Under his guidance, Mango collaborated with global icons like British model Kate Moss, Spanish actor Penélope Cruz, and French footballer Antoine Griezmann.
His human touch and personal investment in Mango’s growth left an indelible mark on the company. “His legacy reflects not just business success but also his human quality, care, and affection for the entire organisation,” Ruiz stated.
Despite the tragic loss, Mango remains steadfast in its mission to grow. The company aims to surpass 3,000 stores globally by 2026 as part of its strategic expansion plan.
A Tragic Loss
Isak Andic’s untimely death has left a void in the fashion industry. His contributions to Mango’s growth and his influence on global fashion are irreplaceable. As the company moves forward, it will continue to uphold the values and vision he instilled, ensuring his legacy endures.
