Strong Voter Turnout in the First Phase
The Election Commission of India reported a voter turnout of 59.28% by 3 p.m. in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections. Of the 81 seats in the state, voting took place in 43 constituencies. Notable among these was the Seraikella-Kharsawan constituency, leading the turnout with an impressive 66.38%, followed closely by Lohardaga at 65.99% and Simdega with 64.31%.
This phase’s overall turnout indicates a strong participation from the public, despite certain areas seeing comparatively lower engagement. In contrast to high participation elsewhere, the state capital Ranchi recorded the lowest turnout of 53.40%.
District-Wise Voter Turnout Breakdown
The Election Commission’s data highlights varying voter turnout percentages across Jharkhand’s districts. Palamu recorded 56.57%, Ramgarh 59.22%, and Khunti with a significant 63.35%. Neighboring Gumla reached a turnout of 64.59%, while West Singhbhum had 60.35%. Latehar reported 62.81%, followed by Garhwa at 61.06%. East Singhbhum and Hazaribagh came in with turnouts of 58.72% and 57.16%, respectively.
Jharkhand Police Steps Up Security with Drones
Ensuring secure voting environments, Jharkhand Police deployed drones for surveillance across key areas in Ranchi. This technological measure highlights the state’s focus on safety and smooth operations throughout the election phases. Authorities maintained vigilance to prevent any disruptions, with extra measures in place to encourage citizen turnout across all constituencies.
