Nargis Fakhri’s Sister Arrested for Double Murder in New York
Nargis Fakhri’s Sister Accused in Double Homicide Case in New York: Aliya Fakhri, sister of Bollywood actor Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in connection with a fire in Queens, New York, that resulted in the deaths of her ex-boyfriend and his friend. The incident occurred on November 2 when Fakhri, 43, allegedly set a two-story garage ablaze, leading to the tragic deaths of Edward Jacobs, 35, and Anastasia Ettienne, 33.
The Incident
According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Fakhri arrived at the garage in the early hours, shouting, “You’re all going to die today.” A witness, alerted by her voice, noticed the building was on fire. Jacobs, who lived upstairs, was asleep at the time. Ettienne, initially managing to escape, returned to save him but was unable to make it out again. Both victims succumbed to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, Katz confirmed in a press release.
A witness described the fire’s grim scene, recounting the smell of a sweet burning odor and a flaming couch blocking the stairs. They reported Ettienne’s heroic attempt to save Jacobs, tragically resulting in her death.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Aliya Fakhri faces multiple charges, including four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder, alongside arson. If convicted, she could face life imprisonment. She is currently in custody, with her next court appearance scheduled for December 9.
“As alleged in this indictment, this defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno,” Katz stated.
Background of the Case
Jacobs’ mother, Janet, revealed that her son had ended his relationship with Fakhri a year ago, but she struggled to accept the breakup. Janet described her son as a hardworking plumber who was renovating the garage into an apartment.
Witnesses noted Fakhri’s past threats, including one where she allegedly warned she would burn Jacobs’ house down. Janet also disclosed Fakhri’s struggles with opioid addiction following a dental mishap, which she believes may have contributed to her actions.
Nargis Fakhri, known for her role in the Bollywood film Rockstar, has not commented on the case. However, reports indicate that the Fakhri family is in disbelief. Aliya’s mother described her as someone who cared deeply for others, expressing shock at the accusations.
The case highlights the tragic consequences of unresolved personal conflicts and raises questions about mental health and addiction’s role in criminal behavior. As the investigation unfolds, the victims’ families and the public await justice for this devastating incident.
