New Zealand Storms Into Champions Trophy Final, Outclass South Africa by 50 Runs
New Zealand secured a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 final with a dominant 50-run victory over South Africa in the second semi-final in Lahore. The Kiwis, led by stellar centuries from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra, posted a formidable total of 362/6. New Zealand’s Strong Batting Display
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, New Zealand capitalized on the opportunity with a well-constructed innings. Rachin Ravindra played an attacking knock of 108, setting the tone for the innings. Captain Kane Williamson, anchoring from the other end, reached a personal milestone, becoming the first New Zealand batter to surpass 19,000 international runs. His composed 102 provided stability in the middle overs, as he and Ravindra forged a crucial 164-run stand for the second wicket.
The middle order ensured the momentum wasn’t lost. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips made impactful contributions, both scoring 49 runs, accelerating in the death overs to push New Zealand past the 350-run mark. South Africa’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with their pacers unable to make early inroads, while spinners failed to apply pressure in the middle phase.
South Africa’s Chase Falters Despite Miller’s Heroics
Chasing a steep target of 363, South Africa made a strong start, looking well on course in the initial overs. However, as the required run rate mounted, the pressure began to show. Regular wickets in the middle overs derailed their chase, despite Miller’s valiant effort. The left-hander fought a lone battle, reaching his century on the last ball of the innings, but his efforts weren’t enough to salvage the game for the Proteas.
South Africa’s middle order crumbled under pressure, failing to rotate strike effectively, which left too much for Miller to do in the final phase. With wickets falling at crucial moments, New Zealand maintained their dominance, closing out the game with a comfortable margin.

With this victory, New Zealand has booked a final showdown against India in Dubai. The Kiwis, having played an aggressive brand of cricket throughout the tournament, will be eager to lift the coveted trophy.
