Man Hangs Himself, Leaves Digital Suicide Note Blaming Wife

A shocking case of suicide has surfaced in Mumbai, where a 41-year-old man, Nishant Tripathi, was found hanging in a hotel room. Before taking his life, he posted an emotional farewell note on the website of his company, holding his wife and her aunt responsible for his distress.

Authorities have initiated a probe into the case, registering a complaint against the two accused for abetment to suicide. The incident has reignited discussions about gender-neutral laws, with many pointing to similar cases across the country.

A Digital Farewell Before Death

The victim checked into the Sahara Hotel in Mumbai three days before his death. He reportedly placed a “Do Not Disturb” sign on his door, which led the hotel staff to suspect something was wrong when they received no response for an extended period. Upon unlocking the room using a master key, they found him hanging and immediately alerted the authorities.

Investigators discovered that Tripathi had uploaded a password-protected suicide note on his company’s website before taking his life. In the note, he expressed deep emotional turmoil, stating that despite the pain, he still held love for his wife. However, he also named his wife and her aunt as the primary reasons for his suffering and death.

His final message implored them to stay away from his grieving mother, who, he noted, had already endured enough pain.

Police Investigation Underway

Mumbai Police have registered a case against his wife, Apoorva Parikh, and her aunt, Prarthana Mishra, based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s mother, Neelam Chaturvedi, a known women’s rights activist. Authorities are currently investigating the allegations, though no arrests have been made yet.

Chaturvedi, devastated by the loss, shared a deeply emotional post on Facebook, describing herself as a “living corpse.” She stated that her son was supposed to perform her last rites, but instead, she had to cremate him. Her daughter, Prachi, took charge of the funeral, performing the final rites in Mumbai.

Similar Cases Spark Debate on Gender-Neutral Laws

The tragic incident in Mumbai is part of a growing pattern of suicides reportedly linked to allegations of domestic harassment.

Just days before, a tech professional in Agra, Manav Sharma, died by suicide, leaving behind a recorded video blaming his wife for emotional torture. His family discovered the footage two days after his death, in which he advocated for stronger legal protections for men facing harassment. However, his wife denied the allegations and accused him of domestic abuse.

A similar case from December involved a Bengaluru-based techie, Atul Subhash, who accused his wife and in-laws of mental torture before ending his life. In another instance, a Delhi café owner also took his life after alleging severe mistreatment by his spouse’s family.

These incidents have fueled calls for reform in India’s legal framework, with advocates urging for gender-neutral laws that protect both men and women from domestic harassment.

The Need for Legal Reforms

The recent surge in suicide cases citing alleged harassment by spouses or their families has intensified the ongoing debate on legal protections for men. While laws exist to safeguard women from domestic violence, campaigners argue that similar provisions should be in place to prevent false accusations and protect men from abuse.

With multiple high-profile cases emerging, legal experts and policymakers are under growing pressure to address the issue and ensure that justice is served in a fair and unbiased manner.

As investigations into Nishant Tripathi’s death continue, the case has once again brought to light the complexities of marital disputes and the tragic consequences they can have. Authorities are now working to gather more evidence and determine whether legal action will be taken against those named in his final note.
