Escape and Capture
The accused, a Bangladeshi national living illegally in India, eluded authorities for several days by moving across multiple locations in Mumbai, including Bandra, Dadar, and Thane. Police discovered his whereabouts when he paid for a paratha via Google Pay at a restaurant where he had previously worked. This crucial lead allowed officers to locate him on a deserted road in Thane, where he was found hiding in a nearby thicket.

The Attack
The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra West, a high-security area. Shehzad reportedly scaled a neighboring building’s wall, used rear staircases, and climbed air-conditioning ducts to reach the 12th floor. Entering through a bathroom window, he was discovered in the bedroom of the actor’s youngest son, Jehangir. During the ensuing scuffle, Saif Ali Khan sustained multiple stab wounds, including one near his spinal cord, which required extensive surgery.
CCTV footage played a significant role in identifying Shehzad. The police pieced together his movements across the city, even capturing him riding a two-wheeler in Andheri. Forming 30 teams, the Mumbai Police worked tirelessly, using every lead, including Shehzad’s phone signals, which they lost when he turned off the device after seeing his images on news bulletins.

Medical Update and Recovery
After the attack, Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw due to unavailability of private vehicles. Doctors performed multiple surgeries, including the removal of a knife fragment lodged in his back. Saif is now recovering, with medical professionals confirming that the injuries could have been life-threatening had the blade gone deeper.
Shehzad, who has been remanded to police custody for five days, faces charges of trespassing, robbery, and attempted murder. His lawyer, however, claims that his client is being framed and denies evidence of any incriminating items recovered. The police are investigating whether Shehzad had accomplices within Saif’s household.
As the investigation unfolds, the case has raised questions about security in high-profile residences and the vulnerabilities even in posh areas of Mumbai. Police are continuing their probe to establish a watertight case, ensuring justice for the Bollywood actor and his family.
