PM Modi Takes Holy Dip at Maha Kumbh, Offers Prayers Amid Massive Crowds
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the revered Maha Kumbh festivities on Wednesday, taking a holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati in Prayagraj. The event, which draws millions of Hindu devotees from across the world, saw the Prime Minister engage in spiritual rituals and prayers, marking his deep connection with the ancient tradition.
Blessed to be at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The Snan at the Sangam is a moment of divine connection, and like the crores of others who have taken part in it, I was also filled with a spirit of devotion.

Dressed in a saffron jacket and blue track pants, with rudraksha beads in hand, Modi performed multiple full-body immersions in the river, reciting prayers as he embraced the sanctity of the occasion. The spectacle unfolded before an ocean of devotees eager to witness the Prime Minister’s participation in the spiritual gathering.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister embarked on a boat ride across the sangam, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Expressing his reverence, Modi described the holy dip as a moment of divine connection. He emphasized the spiritual energy of the Maha Kumbh, stating that he, like the millions who had gathered for the event, was overwhelmed with devotion.
“The snan (holy dip) at the sangam is a moment of divine connection. May Maa Ganga bless all with peace, wisdom, good health, and harmony,” Modi posted on X.
The visuals from Prayagraj depicted a massive crowd, stretching across the banks of the river, as thousands jostled to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. His presence at the Maha Kumbh underlined the significance of the event, which has been a focal point for the government’s developmental initiatives in the region.
A Visit Amid High-Stakes Elections
PM Modi’s visit to the Maha Kumbh coincided with the Delhi Assembly elections, where his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is contesting against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The visit comes as the BJP seeks to disrupt AAP’s bid for a third consecutive term, while also keeping the Congress at bay.
Before setting out for the sangam, Modi took to social media to encourage voter participation in Delhi’s elections. He urged citizens to exercise their democratic rights with enthusiasm, reinforcing the importance of voting in a vibrant democracy.
The Prime Minister is the second high-profile BJP leader to take part in the Kumbh festivities this year. Just days before a tragic stampede at the site that claimed 30 lives, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and his family also participated in the religious rituals.
Investments in Maha Kumbh
Beyond its spiritual essence, the Maha Kumbh has been a major focus for infrastructural development. Last month, the Prime Minister inaugurated 167 projects worth ₹5,500 crore in Prayagraj, ensuring improved road connectivity, sanitation, security, and digital services to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims.
The religious congregation has also drawn international attention. Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk visited the Maha Kumbh, accompanied by CM Yogi Adityanath. During his visit, the Bhutanese monarch explored the Digital Maha Kumbh Experience Centre and participated in spiritual engagements at the historic Lete Hanuman Mandir.
As the Maha Kumbh continues to witness the devotion of millions, the event stands as a testament to India’s rich spiritual heritage and the deep cultural ties that bind people to this sacred tradition.
