School Principal Allegedly Forces Girls to Remove Shirts, Parents Demand Justice

A private school in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, has sparked outrage after its principal allegedly forced Class 10 girl students to remove their shirts and sent them home wearing only their blazers. The incident reportedly occurred during a celebratory “Pen Day” event, marking the conclusion of the students’ final exams.

Incident Details and Student Accounts

As part of the “Pen Day” tradition, students wrote good wishes on each other’s shirts, involving nearly 100 girls. The principal reportedly objected to this activity, reprimanding the students and ordering them to remove their shirts. Despite objections, the principal allowed them to leave the campus wearing just their blazers.

Upon returning home, several students shared their distressing experience with their families, sparking widespread anger among parents.

Parents Condemn the Action

Outraged parents, accompanied by local legislator Ragini Singh, approached the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding strict action against the principal. During the discussions with Deputy Commissioner Madhavi Mishra, parents described the act as “draconian” and “humiliating.” Singh labeled the incident “unfortunate and shameful,” calling for accountability from the school authorities.

Investigation

Deputy Commissioner Madhavi Mishra assured parents that the administration was taking the matter seriously. A committee has been formed to probe the incident, and Mishra promised strict action against those responsible.

“As a woman, it is deeply shocking to witness such behavior toward young girls,” said Mishra, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to justice.

The incident has reignited discussions on the treatment of students and the need for stricter guidelines to prevent such occurrences. The case follows recent legal debates over the autonomy of students in educational institutions, including the Supreme Court’s criticism of a Mumbai college’s dress code banning burqas and hijabs.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with parents and local leaders keeping a close watch on developments. The outcome of the committee’s findings will determine the next steps, ensuring accountability and justice for the affected students.
