Selection process for assistant professor posts declared illegal by Patna HC

Must read

The Patna High Court has declared the selection process for assistant professor posts at the Patna University and its constituent colleges to be illegal. The court ruled that the selection process violated the University Grants Commission’s guidelines and that the state government did not have the authority to relax the rules.

According to a report by The Times of India, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar made the ruling in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Rajesh Kumar Singh, a law teacher. The PIL alleged that the selection process violated the rules laid down by the UGC.

The court also stated that the appointments made through this illegal selection process should be terminated, and the vacancies should be filled in accordance with the UGC’s guidelines. It further directed the state government and the Patna University to file affidavits within two months, outlining the steps they will take to comply with the court’s order.

This ruling has significant implications for the assistant professor recruitment process in Patna University and its constituent colleges. The court’s decision is expected to bring clarity and transparency to the selection process, ensuring that qualified candidates are selected for these crucial academic positions.

This verdict highlights the importance of adhering to guidelines laid down by regulatory bodies such as the UGC. It also emphasizes the need for accountability and transparency in the selection process for academic positions, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates are selected. The ruling will likely have far-reaching implications for higher education institutions across India.
