Tata Steel Celebrates SHE Excellence Awards 2024
Tata Steel marked the fifth edition of its prestigious SHE Excellence Awards 2024 with a grand ceremony at the Archery Ground, JRD Tata Sports Complex. Under the theme “Embrace, Evolve, Excel,” the event reaffirmed the company’s dedication to fostering a culture of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE), aligned with its vision of sustainability and accountability.

Recognizing Leadership in SHE Practices
Launched in FY20, the SHE Excellence Awards aim to inspire and honor employees who exhibit exemplary leadership and commitment in SHE practices. Tata Steel’s CEO and Managing Director, TV Narendran, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized the importance of safety as a core value for Tata Steel.
“Safety is not just a protocol but a commitment to protecting people and the planet. We must embrace challenges, evolve responsibly, and excel in creating a sustainable impact,” Narendran stated.
The awards introduced new runner-up categories this year, a move designed to encourage continuous improvement and inclusivity in SHE practices.
Inspiring Performances and Tributes
The event featured a captivating musical performance by The Great Indian Choir, blending classical and contemporary Indian music under the direction of Prakash Wadekar and Arti Wara. A special tribute was also paid to Ratan N Tata, honoring his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to ethical business practices.
Focus on Sustainability and Zero Harm
Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety, Health & Sustainability, highlighted Tata Steel’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. He underscored the importance of a culture rooted in care, accountability, and harm-free operations.
“Our journey toward sustainability requires personal commitment and collective responsibility. The SHE Excellence Awards are a testament to our unwavering focus on these values,” Mangal said.
Inclusivity at the Forefront
Inclusivity was a key highlight of this year’s awards. Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President of Tata Workers’ Union, applauded the initiative for recognizing vendor partners and grassroots contributors, particularly workers and supervisors. “Acknowledging efforts at every level fosters unity and drives higher standards in safety and environmental performance,” he noted.
A Milestone for SHE Leadership
The SHE Excellence Awards 2024 served as a platform to celebrate Tata Steel’s commitment to safety, health, and sustainability. By recognizing achievements and encouraging continuous improvement, the event highlighted the company’s vision of driving positive change and setting industry benchmarks.
