Shikhar Dhawan equals Virat Kohli’s IPL record with 94 half-century partnerships
In their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Punjab Kings’ skipper Shikhar Dhawan equalled Virat Kohli’s impressive feat. During the match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali, Dhawan created history by achieving his 94th 50-run partnership in IPL history. With this, he has now equalled Virat Kohli’s record of the most half-century partnerships.
This partnership was with Bhanuka Rajapaksa for the second wicket, which helped them put up a good fight against the Knight Riders. Suresh Raina is third on the list with 83, followed by David Warner with 82 partnerships. Dhawan’s remarkable record was achieved when he scored 40 off 29 deliveries before being dismissed by Sunil Narine. Even though Punjab Kings lost the match, Dhawan’s feat didn’t go unnoticed.
Before the match, KKR captain Nitish Rana won the toss and decided to field first. During the toss, Rana said that it had rained in the last two days, so there would be some moisture, and he was excited to have this opportunity. He also mentioned that the impact player rule was in its initial stage and they had to see that the decisions they took proved to be right.
On the other hand, Dhawan expressed that his team would have fielded first, but they had a balanced side and hoped to do well. He added that the team preparation was good, and they were eager to win the trophy. With the tournament now underway, it will be interesting to see if Dhawan can surpass Kohli’s record in the coming matches.
