13-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Sets New Record

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a name that’s quickly becoming synonymous with youthful brilliance in Indian cricket, has achieved yet another remarkable milestone. At just 13 years and 269 days old, Suryavanshi has etched his name in history as the youngest Indian to play a List A cricket match. This record-breaking feat came during his debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s prestigious domestic one-day tournament, where he represented Bihar against Madhya Pradesh.

Suryavanshi’s achievement surpasses a 25-year-old record held by Ali Akbar, who made his debut for Vidarbha at the age of 14 years and 51 days during the 1999/00 season.

A Rocky Start in List A Cricket

While the milestone is monumental, Suryavanshi’s first List A match did not go as planned. Facing Madhya Pradesh, the young left-hander managed only 4 runs from two balls. His innings started on a high note with a boundary off the first ball but was cut short on the very next delivery by Aryan Anand Pandey. Bihar posted a modest total of 196, which Madhya Pradesh comfortably chased down. Star players like Rajat Patidar of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Venkatesh Iyer of Kolkata Knight Riders, who remained unbeaten, played pivotal roles in securing the win for Madhya Pradesh.

A Prodigy in the Making

Suryavanshi is no stranger to breaking records. Earlier, he became the youngest player to feature in a Ranji Trophy game and represent India U19. Adding to his growing list of accolades, the teenager was also the youngest-ever player to be sold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Rajasthan Royals secured his services in November for an impressive ₹1.1 crore.

Under the mentorship of legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid at Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi’s potential seems boundless. His stellar performance in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup earlier this year, where he scored 176 runs in five matches with a sensational strike rate of 145, further solidified his reputation as a rising star.

Despite his stumble in the Vijay Hazare Trophy debut, Suryavanshi’s journey reflects resilience, talent, and the hunger to achieve greatness. As he prepares for the IPL and continues to mature as a player, cricket enthusiasts and experts alike are eager to see how this young sensation shapes the future of Indian cricket.
