Teen Kills Friend Over Alleged Blackmail of Girlfriend
In a shocking incident from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old boy has been detained for allegedly murdering his best friend, Abhinav, using a hammer. The accused reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that Abhinav had stolen private videos of his girlfriend from his phone and used them to blackmail her.
The teenagers, both students preparing for engineering entrance exams, were neighbors and often commuted together to their coaching classes, located about 15 kilometers from their homes.
Events Leading to the Murder
On Saturday, the two teens left for their coaching center as usual. However, Abhinav did not return home that evening. When questioned by Abhinav’s family, the accused denied knowing his whereabouts. Concerned, Abhinav’s father, Sunil Kumar, filed a missing person complaint, naming the accused as a suspect.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, police confirmed that the two friends were last seen together. Under interrogation, the accused admitted to the murder and explained the sequence of events.
Motive
The accused revealed to the police that Abhinav had accessed private videos of his girlfriend from his phone without permission. Abhinav allegedly used these videos to blackmail the girl, pressuring her to meet him. Upon learning this from his girlfriend, the accused decided to confront Abhinav and later planned the murder.
On the day of the incident, the two sold the accused’s phone for ₹8,000 at a shop before stopping for a meal at a restaurant. On their way back, they halted near a tubewell, where the accused suddenly attacked Abhinav with a hammer he had brought in his bag. He continued to strike even after Abhinav collapsed, leading to his death.
Family Demands Justice
Abhinav’s family, devastated by the loss, has refused to cremate his body until justice is served. They suspect that others might have been involved in the crime and have demanded a thorough investigation. Kuldeep, a relative, voiced concerns about potential accomplices, urging the police to reveal the complete truth.
Meerut City SP Ayush Vikram Singh stated that the accused, a minor, would be produced in court. The police have recovered the hammer used in the murder and are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain whether additional individuals were involved.
This case highlights the devastating consequences of digital misuse and the fragility of trust among young individuals. Authorities are now under pressure to ensure a fair investigation and address the family’s concerns.
