While the exact number of employees impacted is unknown, sources believe that it was dozens. Esther Crawford, one of the executives responsible for Twitter Blue, was among those let go. Several startup founders who joined Twitter via acquisitions in recent years also tweeted about their layoffs. Twitter has not commented on the situation.
In a post that went viral after Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter last year, Esther Crawford tweeted that employees sometimes had to #SleepWhereYouWork in order to meet deadlines. While it is unclear how many employees were affected by the layoffs, it is clear that this is yet another move by Musk to drive down costs since his $44 billion acquisition last year.
