Virat Kohli Surpasses Don Bradman with Record-Breaking 30th Test Century in Perth
Indian cricketing legend Virat Kohli scripted history on Day 3 of the first Test against Australia in Perth by smashing his 30th Test century. Kohli reached the century mark in just 143 balls, a landmark moment that not only highlighted his return to form but also etched his name above the legendary Sir Donald Bradman in the list of most Test centuries. India declared their second innings at 487/6, setting Australia an imposing target of 534 runs. Kohli remained unbeaten on 100 when stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah called for the declaration. This century was Kohli’s first in 16 months, underscoring his determination and resilience on the global stage.
Joining India’s Elite Century Club
Kohli’s 30th Test century places him among the most celebrated Indian cricketers. He becomes the fourth Indian to achieve this milestone, joining an elite group led by Sachin Tendulkar (49 Test centuries), Rahul Dravid (36), and Sunil Gavaskar (34). Kohli’s remarkable consistency over the years has made him one of India’s most reliable batters in the longest format of the game.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines with 161
While Kohli’s century grabbed headlines, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the standout performer earlier in the innings. The 22-year-old opener scored a majestic 161, anchoring India’s innings with poise and determination. Jaiswal’s innings, decorated with 15 boundaries and three sixes, demonstrated maturity beyond his years. The young batter, who has risen from humble beginnings in Mumbai, earned a standing ovation as he departed just short of a double century after being caught by Steve Smith off Mitchell Marsh.
India’s Record-Breaking Partnerships
Jaiswal’s 201-run partnership with KL Rahul (77) set a new record for an Indian opening stand in Australia, surpassing the previous best by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth in 1986 at Sydney. Rahul’s composed knock was instrumental in laying a solid foundation for India’s commanding total. Despite quick dismissals of Devdutt Padikkal (25), Rishabh Pant (1), and Dhruv Jurel (1), India maintained their dominance.
Australia Faces a Steep Target
India’s commanding declaration came after Australia’s dismal first innings, where the hosts were bundled out for a mere 104 in response to India’s 150. With a 218-run lead at the start of Day 3, India seized complete control, leaving Australia with an uphill task to chase down 534 runs.
Kohli’s century and Jaiswal’s brilliance encapsulate the spirit of Indian cricket—resilience and excellence. As the five-match series progresses, India has gained a significant psychological advantage over the hosts.
